Feeding Time in Lover’s Cove Marina Preserve

This photo was taken from inside a semi-submersible while on one of our recent “Compton-To-Catalina” trips with kids from the inner-city. These tours, which occur numerous times daily, go through Lover’s Cove Marine Preserve, a marine sanctuary off the coast of Santa Catalina Island. Although snorkeling is allowed, the fish and invertebrates are not disrupted by fishing, diving and boats dropping anchor in their serene environment.

As the semi-submersibles go through the kelp gardens, crewmembers throw food in the water and the inhabitants take full advantage of the gift.

Passengers have an opportunity to see a variety of marine life in their natural environment, including the bright orange Garibaldi, designated the official marine fish of the State of California.
